Two minutes with a strip of paper or a soft tape and you will order the right size first time.

You need a strip of paper (or a string or shoelace), a pen and a ruler.
With a ring that fits (most accurate)
- Lay a ring you wear on that finger on the ruler and measure the inside diameter, edge to edge, in inches.
- Find that diameter in the table below.
With a strip of paper
- Wrap the strip around the base of your finger: it must still slide over the knuckle.
- Mark where it overlaps, lay it flat and measure it in inches: that is the circumference. Find it in the table below.
Measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger.
No ruler? A bank card is 3.4" long: count how many fit along your strip.

Half sizes sit halfway between two rows (about 0.4 mm of diameter).
Good to know: measure at the end of the day, when fingers are slightly larger. Wide bands (8 mm and more) feel tighter: if you are between two sizes, take the larger one. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized, so it is worth measuring twice.
Plain black from a distance, wood and shell up close.
Atlas carried what no one else could lift. Men who do the same rarely ask for anything flashy, which is why this band reads plain black from a distance. Up close, two strips of locust wood run on either side of an abalone shell center that shifts between green, blue and violet as your hand moves. The core is tungsten carbide with a domed profile, and the polished inside slides on easily.
- Hard tungsten core that resists scratches
- Locust wood strips, abalone shell center
- Domed band, US 7 to 14 with half sizes
Details & specs
The core is tungsten carbide, one of the hardest materials used in men's rings, finished in electroplated black. Tungsten carbide holds a polish and resists scratching far better than softer metals, which is why it suits a ring worn every day. The band has a U-shaped, domed outer profile that sits flat against the finger, and the inside is smooth and polished.
Across the top sit two strips of locust wood with a natural open grain, set on either side of a center line of abalone shell. Because the shell and the wood are natural materials, the pattern varies slightly from ring to ring, so yours is its own. Those same natural materials do not like soaking, so they ask for a little care.
How to wear it
Wear it alone on the ring or index finger, where the wood and shell have room to show. The black finish sits well with a black watch strap, a steel bracelet or a plain leather band on the other wrist. It works with a t-shirt and jeans, and it stays quiet enough for a jacket at dinner or a wedding.
Choosing your size
Sizes run from US 7 to 14, with half sizes from 7.5 to 10.5, then 12.5 and 13.5. This is a wide, domed band, so if you are between sizes or usually wear a thin ring, choose the next size up. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized: measure a ring that fits the same finger before ordering, at the end of the day when fingers are slightly larger.
Why this piece
Hard-wearing core
Tungsten carbide is extremely hard and keeps its polish through daily knocks that would mark softer metals.
No two alike
Locust wood grain and abalone shell are natural, so the pattern on your band is its own.

Questions
Should the locust wood and abalone band come off before a shower?
Yes. The tungsten carbide does not rust, but the locust wood and the abalone shell are natural materials that dislike soaking, so take it off for the shower, swimming and the beach.
Will the inlay hold up to everyday wear?
The wood and shell are set into the band, but like any natural inlay they are best kept away from heavy impact and abrasive work. A soft, dry cloth is all the cleaning it needs.
Which size should I take in the domed locust wood band if I am between two?
The next size up, since it is a wide, domed band. Tungsten carbide cannot be resized, so measure a ring that fits the same finger at the end of the day.
What is locust wood?
A dense hardwood from the locust tree, with a natural open grain. On this band two strips of it sit on either side of the abalone center.
What does a U-shaped profile mean?
The band curves in a U across its width: rounded on the outside, with no square corners, while it still sits flat against the finger.
What colors does the abalone show?
Green, blue and violet, shifting as your hand moves. From a distance the band still reads plain black.
Which half sizes are offered?
7.5, 8.5, 9.5 and 10.5, then 12.5 and 13.5. There is no 11.5; whole sizes run from 7 to 14.
Is the black finish plated?
Yes. The tungsten carbide core is finished in electroplated black; the core underneath is what gives the ring its hardness.
